Wood Stork Nesting Area
Wood Stork Nesting Area

This section of the trail is usually closed off to visitors around Winter when the Wood Storks make their nests in the trees. They are very sensitive birds and if disturbed, they may not come back next year.

This little lizard can reach about 8 inches. Young Five-lined Skinks have bright blue tails. They run really fast in a squirming motion. They are often seen on the boardwalk.

On the trail back to the Nature Center, we again pass through the Pond Cypress area. The picture does NOT do it justice ! This section of the boardwalk really zig zags alot. At times you can't distinguish the trail ahead !

We pass the Wet Prairie once more before reaching the Center.

Lastely, we get a better view of the Pine Flatwood Area. Here we see the Saw Palmetto which is the prominant understory plant along with some Sabal Palms.
